That's deliberate. There are a few people around here who don't adapt well to change, so I wanted to keep it feeling like home for a while. Once everybody settles in, we can update that appropriately.

Turns out the problem with the emoticons was on my end Phineus. I've got this plug-in with my Firefox browser that prevents javascript from being automatically used on a website unless I allow it (I got the protection because six months back I had gotten a nasty virus through my outdated java program). Since this is a new website I hadn't yet made the click to allow scripts. Embarassed (see it's working fine now)
